ABBOTTABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday questioned how others could be expected to respect the apex court’s verdicts when the country’s disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif was not doing the same.
“Despite the fact that he (Nawaz) was disqualified from country’s top court after obtaining sufficient testimony against him, the former premier started hue and cry just to defame Supreme Court,” said PTI chief while addressing a gathering of party workers and leaders in Abottabad.
He also slammed recent comments of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in which the premier claimed that horse-trading and money played a key role in the outcome of the recent Senate election.
“The PTI had put forward proposals to take measures to stop horse-trading in Senate polls but they were not taken into account,” he said, adding: “If the PML-N was so concerned why they did not support PTI’s proposals to change Senate election format to prevent these shenanigans?”
“If PM Abbasi thinks that Nawaz Sharif is not guilty of money laundering the he is more foolish than one thought,” said Imran while referring to the Abbasi statement in which he said that disqualification of Nawaz Sharif had hindered economic development in the country.
Besides Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, MNA Dr Muhammad Azhar Khan Jadoon, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Sardar Muhammad Idrees, KP Minister of Food Qalandar Lodhi, Ali Khan Jadoon, PTI activists and workers were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan on Monday slammed Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif over ‘corruption’ in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Project.
Sharing ‘evidence’ on Twitter, Khan said many cases were “forcibly suppressed by special departmental committee despite objections from audit.” “Any project that the Punjab government takes up is doused in corruption,” he added.
On Sunday, the PTI claimed that over Rs7.5 billion had been embezzled in the metro bus project and procurement of medicines for public health facilities. Shafqat Mahmood of the party, who chairs its anti-corruption and accountability wing, urged CJP Saqib Nisar to take notice of “mega corruption” in the Punjab while speaking to reporters.
The PTI leader claimed that the metro bus project being the most expensive of its kind the world over was common knowledge. He said payments to the tune of Rs1.5 billion had been made in connection with the initiative. He said a report by the auditor general of Pakistan had highlighted that over Rs 500 million irregularities were found in the procurement of concrete works and the payment went 40% above the agreed amount.
